A Sad Day In Baseball History – The Passing of a Baseball Legend

I’ve always said that the day Yogi Berra passes on would be a very sad one for me. There’s something so inherently Yogi about all of baseball. Yogi IS baseball! He was a class act, a great (and thus historical) athlete, and he had such a grace and wisdom about him that is unmatched. Every time I saw him at Yankee Stadium for Old Timers’ Day, a smile would come across my face – he just seemed like everyone’s Grandpa! He was adorable and so lovable – EVERYONE knew who Yogi was!

I was extremely disheartened by the disrespect that was shown a little while back when someone stole items from the Yogi Berra Museum – who could do such a thing?

I have always wanted to own the book of Yogi-isms. I was having a hearty discussion on how dumb-founded people would get when he would utter one of his famous lines.  Some personal faves:

“You can observe a lot by watching.”

“It’s deja vu all over again.”

“When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”

“Baseball is 90% mental; the other half is physical.”

“It ain’t over till it’s over.”

If you get hurt and miss work, it won’t hurt to miss work.” (from the Aflac commercial)

“And they give you cash which is just as good as money.” (from the Aflac commercial)

These are just a few of my favorites. The baseball world will never be the same, but Yogi’s legacy will continue on.

Heaven’s baseball team just acquired a world-class catcher.
